Dr. Baker’s Biography
Dr. Paula Baker in addition to serving the health care needs of the pets in the Allandale area for over 26 years is a recognizable face at many school and neighborhood functions. Having had two children grow up and attend Gullett, Lamar, and McCallum, she has sponsored many athletic teams and school events. She frequently is asked to speak to local elementary and preschool students on the importance of responsible pet ownership. In addition to being a Girl Scout herself for over 20 years, she was a troop leader to daughter Alyssa’s troop for 10 years taking the troop on many high adventure activities and promoted an attitude of “I can do or be anything” in the girls. Now grown, these girls have turned into remarkable young women. Her daughter, Alyssa, is a graduate of Texas A&M and a coastal engineer on the West Coast.
Son, Bradley, was a talented football player for the McCallum Knights. He graduated from McCallum High School in 2010 and now attends Texas A&M. Husband, Steve, is a Commander with the Austin Police Department and has also been very active with the neighborhood schools and coached many baseball teams with the Northwest Little League.
As a family they enjoy several outdoor activities like camping, hiking, traveling, skiing, and scuba diving. They have a variety of pets including 2 dogs, 1 cat, and an Amazon parrot that is over 27 years old.
Dr. Baker recently has been volunteering for the Padre Island Turtle Research and Restoration Project at the Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi. This involves searching for nesting Ridley turtles (the most endangered of the marine turtles) in the spring and helping with the release of hatchlings in the summer.
