Cold Laser Therapy
Cold laser therapy is a non-invasive, pain free way to help treat a multitude of conditions your pet may experience, including:
- Pain and inflammation due to conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia and cranial cruciate ligament injuries
- Wounds and fractures
- Dermatological conditions such as hot spots and ear infections
- Post-operative surgical incision
Cold laser therapy works by sending coherent light energy deep into the tissues to help stimulate cells to heal and repair themselves. The handset is placed on the affected area (unless it is too painful to touch) and the laser light is transmitted to the tissue. Your pet may feel some tingling as the light enters the tissue but it is very minimal, if at all. This is a safe modality with minimal to no side effects.
Our doctors will create treatment protocols tailored to each individual pet’s needs and that protocol will be adjusted as needed over time. Some pets may need therapy over multiple joints where as other pets may only need a localized treatment. Laser therapy can also be used in conjunction with other treatments including:
- Rehabilitation therapy
- Pain medications and anti-inflammatories
- Dietary changes and supplementation with glucosamine, chondroitin or omega 3 fish oil
For more information, or to see if cold laser therapy could help you pet lead a more comfortable life, talk to your pet’s veterinarian at their next exam.
